The Antique Rifle Matches for 2017 are on the following dates:
Sunday, April 30th
Sunday, July 30th
Sunday, October 29th
All matches start at 12:00pm.
Rifles that are 100 or more years old or authentic replicas of antique rifles may be used in this event. This is for both civilian and military rifles including rimfire, so drag out Great Grand-dad’s old .22 and have some fun.
Sign-up starts at 12:00 noon followed by a safety briefing. Shooting begins at 12:30 p.m.
If you have a rifle that is 100 years old or older, bring it out and run some rounds through it. That means that if it was manufactured (not just designed) on or before 1916, it may be used in the match. We also allow authentic replicas of antique rifles (such as Shiloh Sharps, Uberti Winchester 1873, Henry 1860 etc.) in appropriate calibers. If you have an old rifle that you would like to shoot but are unsure of its age or eligibility, just contact me. Or better yet, just bring it to the shoot. We won’t turn you away.
We will be shooting at B-17 paper targets and adding in some unusual targets for fun.
Here’s the match itinerary:
The main match is a medal match, and everyone is there to try for their personal best. To that end, everyone shooting will be awarded a medal. Scores up to 75 score Bronze, 76 through 87 score Silver and 88 and above score Gold. The medal match is shot at 100 yards using 13 rounds of ammunition with the ten best shots for score. Any position (prone, standing or kneeling/sitting) may be used. Slings may be used, but no rests are allowed.
There is also the three-position shoot, where five shots are shot standing at 25 yards, five shots are shot at 50 yards kneeling or sitting and five shots are shot prone at 100 yards. Again, slings are allowed but no rests.
There is also a 100-yard offhand shoot using the same 13-round rules as the medal shoot and can be used for a medal upgrade if your score is higher. All shots are shot offhand and a sling is allowed.
Lastly, there will be plinking gongs set up (for lead bullets only) after the other matches are shot.
If this sounds like something you would like to try, come on out! It’s a lot of fun.
