Fast Draw

Cowboy Fast Draw is a shooting sport that combines elements of both cowboy action shooting and western fast draw.  38. to.45 Caliber single action revolvers used in cowboy action can be used for cowboy fast draw, making it easy and inexpensive to participate in both sports.  Unlike cowboy action, no live ammunition is ever used.  Wax bullets, powered by shotgun primers or black power blank loads, are the only forms of ammunition permitted for safety reasons.  Because shooters are drawing, firing and hitting a target in less than a second, safety is paramount.  Single shots at a steel or balloon target are recorded by a digital timer producing scores that are measured to the thousandth of a second.

SLCFSA has its own cowboy fast draw club called the THUNDERING GUNS FAST DRAW CLUB. It was established in 2007 in an effort to bring the national sport of cowboy fast draw to Lancaster Pa. The club is growing and has a number of regular attendees.

Practices will be held prior to any contest.  Demonstrations and one on one instruction by professional fast draw competitors will be offered at both practice and contests.

Anyone interested in observing or participating in a practice or contest is welcome to attend.  No prior experience or equipment is needed, but those who do have single action revolvers and holsters are encouraged to bring them.  All skill levels and ages are welcome.  Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

2017 Schedule:

May 20th

June 17th

July 15th

August 19th

Practice at 9 am, followed by any scheduled contest.  This is a “good weather” activity.  It may be postponed or cancelled due to rain.

Because of the changes in clubhouse area use, these Fast Draw Contests will be held on the trap range on each Saturday morning when no trap shooting is scheduled.  The wax and blanks used in Fast Draw will not disturb the trap ground.  Parking, Porta-Pot facilities, and electricity is available in the immediate area.

Equipment needed will be an extension cord from the power source, 12 folding chairs and 4 folding tables.

Targets and timer system will be provided.
